Family	Nitidulidae
Sub Family
Description	a family of pollen beetles
Background to Family	More than 40 phytophagous species of small to medium-sized beetles, dominated by the genus Meligethes. Members feed as larvae and adults on the unopened buds and flowers of herbaceous dicot families. Individual species are host specific, although the Brassica specialists M. aeneus and M. viridescens have become serious pests of Brassica crops. The cosmopolitan genus Carpophilus is associated with stored dried fruits. Other members of the family are associated with the galleries of wood-boring beetles, sap and fungi.
