Family

Erirhinidae
Sub Family

Description

a family of orthocerous weevils
Background to Family

A family of weevils almost exclusively associated with wetland plants. The closely related Notaris, Tournotaris and Thryogenes are poorly known, but recorded from Poaceae and Cyperaceae. Grypus equiseti feeds on horsetails (Equisetum). The North American alien, Stenopelmus rufinasus (not yet added to the database) occurs on Water Fern (Azolla filiculoides). The biology of the more terrestrial genus Procas is uncertain, although P. granulicollis is associated with Climbing Corydalis (Ceratocapnos claviculata).
