Description	a sub-family of true weevils
Background to Family	A sub-family containing some large, elongate and scarce species (Lixus), which is better represented in southern Europe. The larvae develop on numerous herbaceous dicot families, particularly umbellifers (Apiaceae), thistles (Asteraceae) and goosefoots (Chenopodiaceae); also Ericaceae and Pinaceae. Feeding sites include stems (Lixus) and galls on roots (Bothynoderes, Chromoderus, Cleonis).
