Description	a sub-family of the Chrysomelidae
Background to Family	More than 40 species of brightly coloured, metallic beetles, which often overwinter as adults and have overlapping adult cohorts. Chrysolina is associated with herbaceous plants (especially Lamiaceae, Plantaginaceae and Ranunculaceae), and larvae most commonly feed on roots. Chrysolina americana is an introduced pest of ornamental and culinary Lamiaceae. Other genera predominantly feed on broadleaved trees, especially poplars (Populus), sallow and willows (Salix). The sub-family includes that infamous quarantine pest of potatoes (Solanum), the Colorado beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata).
