Home of the Database of Insects and their Food Plants © Roger Key Family   Cerambycidae Sub Family   Description   longhorn beetles Background to Family   The larvae are typically wood-feeders in stressed or dead trees, where they exploit particular parts of the host; a few species feed on fungi associated with wood decay. Longhorns are usually polyphagous in either coniferous or deciduous trees, but they may display a preference for certain hosts. Other species are relatively specialised on healthy trees and herbaceous plants, with one species inducing galls. Many longhorn beetles generally do not to feed as adults (Prioninae, Spondylidinae, and Cerambycinae) although others consume flower pollen (Lepturinae) or the foliage of larval host plants (Lamiinae).
