Family

Tortricidae
Sub Family

Description

a family of 'micro-moths'
Background to Family

A very large family verging on 400 species, nearly all residents. There are three sub-families in the current Lepidoptera checklist (Bradley, 2000): the Tortricinae, the Oleuthreutinae, and the Chlidanotinae (2 species). The former members of the Cochylidae / Cochylinae are now placed in the Tortricinae. The Tortricidae contains many of the most serious Lepidopteran pests of agriculture, horticulture and forestry.
