Description
 
A sub-family of the Pyralidae
Background to Family
 
More than 50 species, including tropical migrants, with very mixed host preferences among broadleaved trees and shrubs, herbaceous dicotyledons, grasses, sedges and ferns. Larvae feed in spinnings or under a silken retreat on leaves. Pyrausta specialise on Lamiaceae, while numerous species in Udea are polyphagous.
