Family

Gryllidae
Sub Family

Description

crickets
Background to Family

Most records relate to food provided in captivity. The house-cricket (Acheta domesticus) is broadly omnivorous; the field-cricket (Gryllus campestris) mainly feeds on grasses; and the wood-cricket (Nemobius sylvestris) uses leaf litter and perhaps associated fungi (source: Marshall & Haes 1988, Grasshoppers and Allied Insects of Great Britain and Ireland. Harley Books, Colchester.) There is no information for the Scaly-cricket (Pseudomogoplistes vicentae Gorochov, previously misidentified as its relative Pseudomogoplistes sqamiger Fischer).
