Family

Pyralidae
Sub Family

Nymphulinae
Description

A sub-family of the Pyralidae
Background to Family

The resident species of the Nymphulinae are outnumbered by those imported with tropical, aquatic plants, some of which are pests. The larvae often feed underwater in mines, from a case, or in a spinning, on a range of dicot and monocot aquatic plants, including filamentous algae and stoneworts (Characeae). Females of the water veneer, Acentria ephemerella, possess either rudimentary or fully developed wings, and can even mate and swim underwater .
