© Ian Kimber
Family

Oecophoridae
Sub Family

Depressariinae
Description

a sub-family of the Oecophoridae
Background to Family

Nearly half of the species feed as larvae on umbellifers (Apiaceae), especially those in Depressaria. Agonopteryx show varying degrees of specialisation, mainly on Apiaceae, composites (Asteraceae) and legumes (Fabaceae). Several members of the sub-family feed on various broadleaved trees and shrubs. Overall, some larvae mine leaves, stems or fruits early in development, but most feed externally from spinnings later on.
