Background to Family
 
Most members (Ethmia) specialise to varying degrees on Boraginaceae. They feed on flowers, seeds or leaves, associated with silken retreats, and may be gregarious. The adults of these species possess white wings with black patterning. Ethmia pyrausta feeds on rues (Thalictrum).
