Background to Family
 
Members show varying degrees of host specialisation: Cosmopterix are leaf-miners on grasses, reeds, or certain herbaceous perennials; Limnaecia phragmitella feeds on the seeds of bulrushes (Typhaceae); Pancalia feed on the petioles and rootstocks of violets (Viola), and Sorhagenia feed in shoots, buds or between spun leaves on buckthorns (Rhamnaceae).
