Family

Choreutidae
Sub Family

Description

a family of 'micro-moths'
Background to Family

Five resident species and one migrant / transitory resident. The larvae mostly occur on a single host genus, or on closely related members in the same plant family. They usually feed exposed in a web on the leaves of herbaceous plants (Urticaceae, Asteraceae, Lamiaceae) or shrubs and trees (Rosaceae, Betulaceae). There may be confusion over the reported hosts of the migrant, Tebenna micalis, which was previously misidentified as Tebenna bjerkandrella in Great Britain. There are European host records for the latter, continental, species.
