0205 Lep Adel, Nemophora degeerella
© Ian Kimber
Family

Adelidae
Sub Family

Description

a family of 'micro-moths'
Background to Family

The life-histories of the five species of Nematopogon (Nematopogoninae) are poorly known; they generally feed on dead and decaying leaves. Most of the Adelinae- five species of Nemophora and six species of Adela- initially feed on the seeds of their host plant. They then form a portable case from plant fragments, and feed on the lower, dead or fallen leaves of the host. A wide range of dicot herbs are used, also certain shrubs and trees.
