Background to Family
 
Day-flying moths that display vivid warning colouration, and occur in colonies in open habitats, especially grassland. The caterpillars specialise on particular dicot herbs (foresters, Procridinae), or mainly on leguminous herbs (burnets, Zygaeninae, on Fabaceae). The adults feed conspicuously at flowers.
