Sub Family

Description

a family of 'micro-moths'
Background to Family

Eleven resident species, mining leaves or the bark of twigs. Most Cemiostominae occur in the genus Leucoptera and are monophagous on leguminous herbs, shrubs and trees (Fabaceae). Lyonetia (Lyonetiinae) feed on a range of rosaceous trees, and Bedellia somnulentella (Bedelliinae) specialises on bindweeds (Convolvulaceae); it alone changes leaves during development.
