© Ian Kimber
Family

Geometridae
Sub Family

Sterrhinae
Description

mochas and waves; a sub-family of the Geometridae
Background to Family

The mochas (Cyclophora) are generally scarce insects, which are bivoltine and overwinter as pupae; they feed on broadleaved trees, especially oaks. The waves (Scopula and Idaea) are univoltine and overwinter as larvae. They tend to be oligophagous to polyphagous on a wide range of herbaceous, dicot plants; several species include dead and withered foliage in the diet.
