The distinctive Lithosiinae (footman moths) have cryptic, predominantly lichen-feeding caterpillars, occurring in a wide range of habitats and on numerous substrates. Many of the Arctiinae (ermines and tigers) bare striking warning colours as adults, and are generally polyphagous on many dicot, herbaceous plants.
