0162 Hym Eury, Sycophila biguttata on Aulacdea hieracii gall
© Roger Key
Family

Eurytomidae
Sub Family

Description

a family of chalcid wasps
Background to Family

Like in the Torymidae, the family contains both phytophagous and parasitoid species. Tetramesa specialises on grasses (Poacaeae), where most species induce galls. Members of Eurytoma mainly attack a range of gall-inducing families, including Tetramesa. A few species exploit the seeds of herbaceous legumes (Fabaceae).
