Home of the Database of Insects and their Food Plants Family   Pamphiliidae Sub Family   Description   a family of sawflies Background to Family   Two sub-families, feeding predominantly on trees: the Cephalciinae on conifers, and the Pamphiliinae on angiosperms - particularly Rosaceae, Salicaceae and Betulaceae. Individual species may be monophagous or oligophagous. The larvae feed singly or gregariously on needles or foliage, moving about beneath silk webbing. The conifer feeders include forestry pests of pine (Pinus, Acantholyda) and larch (Larix, Cephalcia lariciphila).
