Twenty-six species that complete the life cycle in one year and on a single host. A few species are polyphagous. The main form is the wingless, parthenogenetic, live-bearing female. Ant-attendance is common. The Chaitophorini occurs on certain trees (Salix, Populus, Acer, Aesculus), and the Siphini on Poaceae.

Data currently unassessed by a specialist for changes in nomenclature, new species to the British list, new interactions, errors in original sources, and misspellings.; The Chaitophoridae is now treated as a sub-family (Chaitophorinae) of the Aphididae (Blackman & Eastop, 2000).;
