Notes

The Coccoidea, or scale insects, are highly adapted, sedentary feeders on mostly Angiosperm hosts. Females have neither eyes or wings, and legs and antennae are reduced or absent. The first instar 'crawler' is the dispersive stage, as is the short-lived, winged male. Females usually reproduce parthenogenetically. Most records in the database are derived from the slide collection of The Natural History Museum. ; Geographical sources of the records refer to both British and foreign regions. They indicate where the scale was recorded and where the host plant originated. Many, if not most, species will be unestablished in the wild in Great Britain.;
