Adults often bare a layer of wax. The numerous tiny species in the genus Acalypta are moss-dwelling and -feeding; they usually lack wings. Physatocheila are associated with lichen encrusted trees, particularly rosaceous ones. Other tingids show varying degrees of host specificity, e.g. restricted to single hosts, to particular life forms (grasses, sedges and rushes), or to members of the same plant family.
