Typically lightly-built, green or brown bugs that mostly feed on unripe seeds and fruits. Members of the Phylinae, Orthotylinae and Dicyphinae are at least partially predatory, and the Deraeocorinae are entirely so. A wide range of hosts are used: ferns, conifers, broadleaved trees, herbs and grasses, sedges and rushes. Species range from being host specific, to occurring on members of the same family, or on several families.
