Description	groundbugs
Background to Family	A large family of ground-dwelling bugs, composed of seven sub-families, with more than 70 taxa in Great Britain. Members are predominantly nocturnal seed-feeders, but they may also feed on other insects. Groundbugs are mainly associated with a wide range of herbaceous plants; some live in the canopies of conifers (Gastrodes); while others have been linked to ants' nests (Taphropeltus, Eremocoris). Species range from being host specific to polyphagous.
